This book lives up to its name, and it really is the last book on screenwriting you’ll ever need.

Save the Cat breaks down the formula used by the most successful movies in the past 20 years, showing you the exact “beats” or key moments you need to provide to engross the audience, and I plan to use this for the screenplay I’m writing after I finish my novel.

Definitely a good book for any writer’s arsenal, and applies equally well to novels as well as movie scripts. I’m using some of the concepts to improve the opening of my novel, for example, including the “Save the Cat!” concept itself — which relates to an action the main character does within the first 10 pages, so that the audience/reader finds him/her likable.

I’ve ordered the sequel, and Save the Cat goes to the movies, and can’t wait to see what else Blake Snyder has in store.

  1. I have been trying to find a great screenwriting book. I think I will give this one a shot. Thanks for the review.

    • Oy! If there’s a critique I could prboably use LOL!! I will bow out of the contest though because it should go to someone who doesn’t have an agent who is there to help with this stuff anyway. I’d feel bad. But I AM interested in buying the book. Oh and I’ll tweet the contest because it’s awesome and so are you!!
